In December 1994, Donald Sarette established Sarette and Associates, now S & A, Inc., growing the business so that it currently serves companies and unions in Florida, Ohio, Texas and all of New England. Mr. Sarette’s career path began at the University of Massachusetts, where he cashed in on a full football scholarship while proving that he was also good with numbers. For two years running, Sarette and his fellow Minutemen were ranked in the nations’ top three teams under the coaching prowess of Dick McPherson, former head coach of the New England Patriots. Mr. Sarette came away from the University of Mass with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance, and sporting a Stagg Bowl championship ring.
After years of chasing footballs, Mr. Sarette focused on snagging a Masters in Business Administration at Southern New Hampshire University (formerly New Hampshire College). At the same time he was cutting his teeth in the professional accounting field. Mr. Sarette was assigned to a joint project with Lance Roberts of Roberts Planning Group, where his efforts and abilities were quickly acknowledged. Mr. Sarette was offered a position at the esteemed employee benefits firm, and found himself serving directly under Mr. Roberts, another great coach and mentor.
During his tenure at RPG, Mr. Sarette had an opportunity to learn the full spectrum of employee benefits, from pensions to compensation to fringe benefits. As he honed his skills to become one of the few professionals fluent in the workings of Taft-Hartley Union Plans, Mr. Sarette was able to assist three trade unions recover hundreds of thousands of dollars that improper administration had almost made irretrievable.
Always looking for the latest news in benefits, Mr. Sarette continues his education by participating in several professional development opportunities, including seminars hosted by the Employers Council on Flexible Compensation (ECFC) and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP).
Mr. Sarette splits his time between offices in Maine, New Hampshire and Florida while always finding time for his family. Daughter Joelle received her MBA at the University of New Hampshire while building a career in marketing at Company C. Younger daughter Kasha graduated Summa Cum Laude from George Washington University in Washington, DC. She is now pursuing a law degree.
Mr. Sarette’s other interests include restoration of classic automobiles and pirate lore. When he’s not talking business, you’ll find that he’s always happy to chat cars, football, and swashbuckling. |
